Does the prospect of designing your own building and landscapes attract you? Do you find yourself looking at buildings both old and new as you stare at its marvels and beauty? Then, a career in architecture is definitely your calling. A career as an architect is attractive and filled with development opportunities. The degree is designed to help graduates work on different aspects of designing, management, aesthetics, practicality, spatial design, urban planning and product management etc. among several aspects. It has several specialized fields like urban planning, building sciences, project management, landscape architecture, urban design etc. which help in both artistic and aesthetic innovation. The basic requirement for getting admissions into architecture course is to pass 12th standard or 2nd PUC with physic, chemistry and mathematics as the basic subjects. Candidates who have completed a 10+3 diploma in any stream are also eligible to apply for the course.

It is important to appear and clear NATA or National aptitude test in architecture to enroll into the Bachelors in Architecture course. It is
the official exam conducted by the Council of architecture. 

The exam has two parts – the first is an online multiple choice questionnaire which contains 20 questions from mathematics and 40 questions covering general aptitude. Each question carries two marks. The 1st part of the exam is for 120 marks and the candidates get a maximum of 90 minutes to finish it. The second part of the exam is a drawing session where the students are judges on –
Ability to sketch a given object proportionately and rendering the same in visually appealing manner
Visualizing and drawing the effects of light on the object and shadows cast on surroundings
Sense of perspective drawing
Combining and composing given three dimensional elements to form a building or structural form
Creating interesting two dimensional composition using given shapes and forms
Creating visual harmony using colors in given composition
Understanding of scale and proportions
Drawing from memory through pencil sketch on themes from day to day experiences.

 The second part holds 80 marks. The whole exam is for a total of 200 marks and the overall qualifying mark is decided after taking in post exam statistics. The mathematics MCQ will be based on 11th and 12th CBSE and PUC syllabus and the general knowledge part contains questions to test your awareness and the aptitude questions that judges your architectural knowledge. It has opportunities to take up government jobs in departments of public works, housing and urban development, railways, ministry of defense, archaeological department, national building organisation, housing boards etc. One can also open their private consultancy or practice. The job of being an architect includes but is not limited to site visits, meeting clients to know their objective, preparing required specifications, designing places to live work and play by brainstorming different possibilities and presenting the ideas, estimating the costs for material, expenditure and time etc.
IITs and NITs don’t need NATA score but, you need to appear for the second part of JEE Mains which has the same structure as NATA exams.

Bangalore is one of the budding hubs with several good colleges for architecture. They accept applications through CET and COMED-K. All the private colleges also have management quota, NRI quota and Out of Karnataka seats
